What This School Does Well

This school creates an excellent learning environment where pupils are proud to be part of the community and support local causes like the food bank. Teachers have strong subject knowledge and use clear explanations to help pupils remember what they learn, with particular strength in reading where phonics is taught consistently and well. Pupils benefit from warm, respectful relationships with staff and enjoy a wide range of clubs and leadership opportunities that help them discover what is possible.

Key Strengths

  • Outstanding behaviour and attitudes across the school, with high expectations established from early years
  • Strong phonics teaching ensures pupils become confident, fluent and accurate readers
  • Well-sequenced, ambitious curriculum with clear knowledge and vocabulary progression
  • Excellent personal development programme covering healthy relationships, safety, and diversity
  • Strong leadership with high staff morale and good professional development opportunities

Areas for Improvement

  • Teachers do not always make effective or appropriate adaptations of the curriculum for pupils with SEND, which means some pupils do not build on their knowledge securely
  • Lesson design needs refinement to ensure all pupils achieve as well as the school intends

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective and the school has created a positive culture around safeguarding that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

Gardening, multi-sports, musical performances to the community, school council, pupils' leadership team

North Thoresby Primary Academy is an important part of the local community where pupils achieve well and demonstrate excellent behaviour. The school has designed a well-sequenced curriculum with strong teaching in reading and mathematics, supported effectively by Lift Schools Trust.
