What This School Does Well

This is a truly inclusive school where every child is welcomed and supported to thrive. Staff are expert at spotting any challenges pupils face and providing personalised help, whether through the enhanced resource base, family support services, or targeted academic support. The school gives pupils wonderful opportunities to develop through residential visits, leadership roles, clubs and trips, while teaching them important life skills and preparing them well for their future.

  • Highly inclusive culture with excellent support for pupils with additional needs and disadvantaged pupils
  • Strong pastoral care and wellbeing support through the 'Leigh Flourish' family service
  • Well-planned curriculum that builds knowledge progressively across all subjects
  • Effective phonics teaching and vocabulary development in key stage 2
  • Wide range of enrichment activities, clubs, trips and leadership opportunities

Areas for Improvement

  • Handwriting skills not yet fully embedded in early years and key stage 1, though improving in key stage 2
  • Attendance remains an area for development despite recent improvements
  • Some inconsistencies in how confidently pupils acquire handwriting skills
