Ofsted Insights

From Ofsted's February 2025 inspection report.

What This School Does Well

Leicester Islamic Academy creates a nurturing, supportive environment where children feel safe and happy while maintaining high academic expectations. The school's curriculum is ambitious and well-planned, helping pupils build strong knowledge they can apply in new situations. Staff and pupils share the school's HEART values, and the school excels at developing pupils' personal, social and spiritual development alongside their academic learning.

Key Strengths

  • Ambitious, well-designed curriculum that builds knowledge cumulatively with regular revisiting of important themes
  • Strong personal development provision with excellent PSHE and SMSC teaching that encourages pupils to be reflective and respect different views
  • Positive, caring relationships between staff and pupils with effective support for those falling behind
  • Effective leadership that knows the school well and acts quickly on improvements
  • Early years provision that gives children a positive start with good care and independence-building opportunities

Areas for Improvement

  • Phonics programme components don't align well enough - reading books don't consistently match sounds pupils have learned, slowing early reading progress
  • Teachers don't always adapt lessons well enough for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in some cases
  • Website information was out of date at time of inspection (though new site due March 2025)

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective with appropriate policies, procedures and risk assessments in place to promote pupils' welfare and safety.
