Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Lea Manor has transformed into a caring, inclusive school where pupils thrive. Teachers deliver strong, purposeful lessons that help all pupils, including those with special needs, make secure progress. The school excels at supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils, with dedicated teams ensuring every child receives the right help at the right time.

Key Strengths

  • Dramatically improved attendance now broadly in line with national figures, with significantly fewer pupils attending less than 90% of the time
  • Consistently strong teaching with high-quality professional development for staff, helping pupils catch up on past learning gaps
  • Exceptional inclusion and support for pupils with special educational needs and those facing barriers to learning
  • Excellent behaviour with pupils calm, punctual and ready to learn, creating an orderly environment
  • Leaders place pupils' needs at the centre of all decisions and have built strong relationships with families and the community

Areas for Improvement

  • Examination outcomes still do not yet fully reflect the stronger quality of education pupils now receive, as some older pupils are affected by past weaknesses
  • A small number of pupils do not consistently demonstrate respect and tolerance in relation to characteristics such as gender and ethnicity
  • Gaps in knowledge in English and mathematics remain for some pupils, though targeted support is helping them catch up

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met - leaders have established an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, concerns are actively identified and managed, and pupils feel safe.

Extracurricular Activities

Clubs, trips, sporting activities, work experience (key stage 4), music, languages

Lea Manor High School has made dramatic improvements since being taken over by a trust in August 2023, moving from inadequate status to a strong standard school. Leaders have acted with urgency to transform teaching, attendance, behaviour and support for vulnerable pupils.
