What This School Does Well

Kingsmeadow is a warm and welcoming school where all students settle happily and feel valued by committed staff. Behaviour is good throughout the school, and the school excels at supporting lower-ability students to achieve higher standards than the national average. The school provides an interesting curriculum that develops students' personal, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Key Strengths

  • Behaviour in lessons and around school is good, with older students showing high levels of courtesy and respect
  • The school is extremely caring and welcomes students from all backgrounds, with committed staff
  • Leadership is passionate with high ambitions for students' achievement, and governance is a strength
  • Lower-ability students attain much higher standards in GCSE compared to national averages
  • The curriculum develops students' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development well

Areas for Improvement

  • Too few more able students achieve well, especially in mathematics with lower proportions of A* and A grades than national average
  • Teaching is not consistently inspiring or thought-provoking, with students sometimes too dependent on teachers
  • Not enough challenge in lessons to ensure good progress for all groups, including those eligible for pupil premium funding
  • Students with special educational needs do not always achieve as well due to activities not being closely matched to their abilities

Kingsmeadow Community Comprehensive School is a smaller than average secondary school with specialist business and enterprise status. The school requires improvement, with concerns about student achievement and teaching quality, though behaviour and leadership are strong.
