What This School Does Well

ISP School excels at welcoming pupils who have had negative experiences of education and helping them re-engage with learning through clear routines, expert pastoral support and high staff consistency. The school's strongest quality is its exceptional focus on personal development - pupils genuinely feel known and valued as individuals, which builds their confidence and prepares them extremely well for life beyond school. Staff create a calm, respectful environment where pupils from the age of 7 to 18 can concentrate on learning and develop into caring, compassionate citizens.

Key Strengths

  • Outstanding behaviour and personal development - pupils learn to build kind, empathetic friendships and develop resilience and confidence
  • Ambitious, broad curriculum taught by staff with secure subject knowledge, particularly strong mathematics programme
  • Expertly curated individualised transition processes that help pupils quickly become part of the school
  • Calm, positive learning environment with highly consistent behaviour management approaches
  • Extensive enrichment activities including cooking, drama and individual interest development that prepare pupils well for modern Britain

Areas for Improvement

  • Writing skills need improvement across the whole curriculum - pupils do not write with enough depth, accuracy and technical detail
  • Teachers' expectations for high-quality writing are not consistent throughout the school
  • Despite re-engaging pupils' interest in reading, more support is needed for pupils with severe literacy difficulties

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with leaders putting pupils' interests first and creating an open, positive culture around safeguarding.

Extracurricular Activities

cooking, drama performances, developing individual interests such as singing, community meetings

ISP School is a special school for pupils aged 7-18 with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. The school provides a welcoming, positive environment where pupils who have experienced significant educational disruption are helped to re-engage with learning and achieve well.
