Fernhurst Primary School creates a happy, ambitious learning environment where pupils arrive eager to learn and develop strong reading skills. The school provides exceptionally wide-ranging experiences including theatre performances at the Royal Albert Hall, visits to art galleries and places of worship, and outdoor learning at woodlands and beaches. Strong behaviour and emotional well-being support, including breathing exercises and well-planned lunchtimes, help all pupils feel calm and ready to learn.

- Excellent behaviour and well-being support, including 'happy breathing' sessions and 'happiness heroes' at lunchtimes
- Effective early identification and support for children with special educational needs
- Strong leadership commitment to staff workload and well-being
Areas for Improvement
- Some pupils do not receive enough practice in foundational writing skills like letter formation, making it harder for them to access more complex writing tasks
- Teachers do not always adapt the curriculum to match pupils' starting points, leading some to become overly reliant on adult support
- Checks on what pupils know and remember are sometimes not effective enough, so learning activities don't always focus on filling knowledge gaps
