What This School Does Well

Falmouth School is increasingly aspirational with high expectations for all pupils. The school has successfully improved behaviour and attendance by working closely with families, creating a calm, respectful environment where pupils take pride in their achievements.

Key Strengths

  • Ambitious, well-sequenced curriculum with strong teaching approaches that help pupils remember and apply knowledge
  • Effective improvements to behaviour and attendance through collaborative work with pupils and families
  • Strong support for pupils with SEND and disadvantaged learners, with clear processes and good outcomes
  • Prioritisation of reading with focused programmes for struggling readers
  • Broad extra-curricular offer and strong emphasis on personal development

Areas for Improvement

  • Implementation of curriculum is sometimes inconsistent between subjects, affecting the quality of learning for some pupils including those with SEND
  • Sixth form curriculum offer is not as broad as the school's ambition, limiting choices for post-16 students
  • Some newer curriculum workbooks need more time to have their intended impact
