What This School Does Well

This is a warm, inclusive school where every child is welcomed and valued. Reading is a real strength with excellent phonics teaching, and the school provides expert support for children with additional needs through their specialist Treehouse provision. Staff know pupils well as individuals and create a calm, purposeful learning environment where children are happy to come to school.

Key Strengths

  • Reading is a high priority with effective phonics teaching now above national average
  • Strong inclusive vision with well-judged support for pupils with SEND in The Treehouse specialist provision
  • Positive behaviour and attendance, with calm and orderly classrooms and high staff expectations
  • Ambitious and broad curriculum with specialist teaching in subjects like physical education
  • Strong early years provision with careful progression from age 2 through Reception

Areas for Improvement

  • Some disadvantaged pupils do not achieve as well as they should by end of Key Stage 2, particularly in reading
  • Assessment in the wider curriculum is less well developed than in English and mathematics
  • Pupils not always clear about the purpose of educational visits and what they are expected to learn
  • Pupils' understanding of fundamental British values, equality and respect for different backgrounds is less secure
  • Governor monitoring needs to be sharper to ensure curriculum and targeted funding have positive impact
