  • Effective whole-school approach to teaching literacy, improving writing across the curriculum -
  • Leaders and staff well-trained and supported to teach secondary curriculum effectively -
  • Broad, ambitious curriculum with careful thought given to subject knowledge and vocabulary -
  • Staff know pupils' needs well and adapt teaching to support all learners, including those with SEND

Areas for Improvement

  • Some staff do not check pupils' learning well enough, so gaps and errors in understanding are not always closed effectively -
  • Governors need further development of expertise to provide consistently robust and rigorous challenge to leaders -
  • Pupils' attainment in national assessments at the end of key stage 2 was previously low, particularly in writing

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met, with leaders and governors fulfilling their responsibilities, establishing an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, and actively identifying and managing concerns so children are made safer and feel safe.

Edward Peake CofE VC School is an inclusive and harmonious secondary school that has taken effective action to address weaknesses in pupil attainment, particularly in writing at key stage 2. Leaders have introduced a whole-school literacy approach and ensured staff have the expertise to teach key stage 4 pupils effectively.
