What This School Does Well

Church Hill Nursery School excels at helping all children achieve their full potential through excellent, inclusive teaching. The vibrant learning environment and creative activities inspire children to explore confidently, while staff work closely with parents to provide tailored support for each child's individual needs. Parents particularly appreciate the school's welcoming, diverse community where every child is valued and celebrated.

Key Strengths

  • Children make exceptional progress, including those with special educational needs, disadvantaged children, and the most able
  • Outstanding learning environment for three- to five-year-olds with vibrant, creative indoor and outdoor classrooms that stimulate thinking and learning
  • Strong inclusive ethos where cultural diversity is celebrated and parents feel valued as full partners in their child's education
  • Effective safeguarding with thorough procedures, well-trained staff, and clear coordination with external agencies
  • Successful partnerships with other early years providers and local primary schools

Areas for Improvement

  • Two-year-old provision lacks stimulating learning environment with minimal displays and written prompts to support early communication, literacy and numeracy skills
  • Impact of provision for the most able children is not evaluated as effectively as for other groups
  • Analysis of achievement data does not sufficiently focus on progress of the most able disadvantaged children

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is effective with thorough arrangements kept under constant review, well-trained staff with clear collective responsibility, and strong support from designated safeguarding leaders working closely with external agencies.

Church Hill Nursery School continues to be outstanding following its federation with another local nursery school in February 2015. Under the executive headteacher's leadership, the school has maintained excellent quality education while successfully managing structural changes and broadening leadership capacity.
