What This School Does Well

Cherry Orchard is a caring school where children feel genuinely looked after and known by staff. Pupils achieve particularly well in writing by Year 6, and the school builds knowledge carefully across subjects so learning makes sense. The school balances high academic expectations with plenty of opportunities for pupils to develop as rounded citizens through community work and leadership roles.

Key Strengths

  • Strong teaching of phonics and early reading with prompt support for struggling readers
  • Well-planned curriculum that builds knowledge step by step across subjects
  • Excellent writing achievement by the end of Year 6
  • High expectations for behaviour creating a calm, focused atmosphere
  • Active community engagement with local care homes and charitable work

Areas for Improvement

  • Some pupils struggle with forming numbers and letters correctly, and the school needs to strengthen support for these foundational writing skills
  • Subject-specific vocabulary is not always reinforced effectively enough to help pupils grasp concepts deeply

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with adults creating an open, caring environment where pupils feel safe to share worries and problems.

Extracurricular Activities

After-school clubs, play leader roles during breaktimes, school council, local career talks from residents

Cherry Orchard Primary School has maintained its good standards since the previous inspection. Pupils love attending because they feel safe, well cared for, and supported to achieve well.
