What This School Does Well

Bodmin College has made real progress in improving teaching quality and how subjects are taught, with staff now better equipped to help your child learn the most important knowledge and skills. The school has also significantly strengthened its careers guidance, meaning your child will receive excellent support and real opportunities to meet employers and explore their future options. Leadership at the school is focused and accountable, working together with trust leaders to continue making improvements.

Key Strengths

  • Teaching quality has improved with greater focus on key knowledge and skills, clear presentation of new material, and subject-specific vocabulary
  • School has strengthened curriculum planning so each subject clearly sets out what pupils should learn and when
  • Careers education and guidance has been significantly improved with better employer links, impartial advice, and a structured programme from Year 7 to Year 13
  • Leadership and governance have been strengthened with better accountability and clearer vision for improvement
  • Support for pupils with SEND has improved with better information provided to teachers about how to adapt the curriculum

Areas for Improvement

  • Curriculum adaptations for pupils with SEND need to be more precise and consistent across all pupils
  • The full impact of teaching and curriculum improvements is still emerging and too early to fully evaluate
  • Further work needed to ensure improvements are embedded across all areas of the school

Bodmin College is a school not in a category of concern that has made progress to improve, though some aspects still need further development. Since the previous inspection, the school has strengthened the quality of education and made improvements for pupils with special educational needs.
