What This School Does Well

The school has made impressive progress since its recent inspection, with the new headteacher leading a team of reinvigorated staff and governors all committed to improvement. Teaching quality is being carefully monitored and improved through better training and support for teachers. Pupils are responding positively with increased pride in their work, shown by lively and vibrant classrooms.

Key Strengths

  • Teaching is now at the heart of school improvement with frequent and thorough checks on classroom practice
  • New writing guidance and handwriting policy are helping pupils take greater pride in their work
  • Senior leaders are driving change effectively with strong support from governors
  • Staff performance management system has been updated with clear expectations and targeted support for improvement
  • School improvement plan sets clear priorities and the school is sticking to a demanding timeframe

Areas for Improvement

  • More able pupils need greater support to make swifter progress
  • School development plan needs more detail about actions from September onwards and long-term goals for pupil achievement
  • Governors need to strengthen their monitoring role and sharpen the way they collect evidence about school performance

All Saints Church of England Primary School Marple was judged to require improvement in February 2013 and this monitoring visit in April 2013 found the new headteacher has successfully refocused the school with clear improvement plans and staff working together towards becoming a good school.
