Areas for Improvement
- Work in Years 1 and 2 is not always matched to pupils' different abilities, particularly when Year 1 and 2 are taught together
- Teachers' expectations are sometimes too low
- Mathematics work is too focused on practice rather than problem-solving, and pupils say it is too easy
- Writing progress is held back because pupils are not given new targets once they have achieved their current ones
- School leaders do not have strong enough systems to check how well pupils are progressing
Safeguarding
Safeguarding procedures were examined as part of the inspection but no specific effectiveness judgement is stated in the report.
Extracurricular Activities
Almondbury Play Group, Doodles after-school club
Almondbury Church of England Voluntary Aided Infant and Nursery School requires improvement overall. While Nursery and Reception children make good progress and behaviour is good, pupils in Years 1 and 2 are not progressing well enough in reading, writing and mathematics because work is not always pitched at the right level for their age and ability.
