Al-Khair School in detail

Results

The Department for Education's GCSE measures do not count IGCSEs, which many independent schools take instead of GCSEs, so the Attainment 8 and English and maths figures it publishes for Al-Khair School can understate its results. We do not rank or compare them; ask the school for its own GCSE and IGCSE results.

Ofsted Insights

From Ofsted's November 2024 inspection report.

What This School Does Well

Al-Khair School provides a unique combination of academic rigour and faith education that pupils genuinely value. Staff know each pupil well and create a supportive environment where children can be themselves while meeting high expectations for learning and behaviour. The school goes beyond the classroom with enriching activities, career guidance, and a genuine focus on preparing young people for life beyond school.

Key Strengths

  • Strong pastoral care with positive relationships between staff and pupils who feel safe and known
  • Broad curriculum offer including computer science GCSE, Islamic studies IGCSE, and excellent support for pupils with SEND
  • High expectations for behaviour and achievement that pupils consistently meet, with polite and articulate conduct
  • Enriching extra-curricular activities and career preparation including work experience and employer interactions
  • Effective safeguarding arrangements with zero tolerance for bullying and clear behaviour management systems

Areas for Improvement

  • Teaching does not consistently present information clearly or select appropriate resources, leading to gaps in pupils' knowledge and recall
  • Some tasks do not effectively help pupils learn and consolidate key information
  • Staff need to implement the school's teaching methods more consistently so pupils can build knowledge over time

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with pupils feeling safe and able to speak to any staff member about concerns.

Extracurricular Activities

Golf, horse riding, archery, jujitsu, cultural visits (Imperial War Museum, Royal Observatory), work experience, careers fairs, guest speakers

Al-Khair School is an Islamic independent day school for boys aged 11 to 16 that has been rated Good overall. The school successfully combines academic excellence with Islamic faith studies in a supportive community environment.
