What is it like to attend this early years setting?

Children are supported by skilled staff to make secure progress in their learning and development. They show that they can remember more and do more. Young babies turn the pages of a book. They use their developing dexterity to open flaps, and when they see a familiar image they point and say, 'Duck'. Older children demonstrate their increasing knowledge and understanding of the natural world. They answer staff's questions to identify correctly that an octopus has eight legs. Older children recall information that they have recently learned confidently. For instance, they remember that a clown fish lives in the coral reef.

Children throughout the nursery benefit from the variety of outings that staff arrange. Staff offer these opportunities to help children connect their learning with real-life experiences. For example, older children further their learning about water habitats by visiting a local river. Younger children enjoy talking about their holidays. They politely wait their turn to contribute their ideas at group time and are excited to tell their friends that they will soon travel on an aeroplane and a ship. These activities help children to learn new information that they will use to navigate the world around them as they grow older.

What the setting must and should do next

The provider should:

  • support staff to recognise and respond effectively when children's attitudes to their learning start to deteriorate.

Ofsted grades before November 2025 (England)

Inspections before November 2025 gave one overall grade on a four-point scale: Outstanding, Good, Requires improvement, Inadequate. Ofsted also graded the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management, and said whether safeguarding was effective.

Settings keep their last grade until Ofsted visits again, so many nurseries still show a grade from this older scale.
