What Ofsted found in each area
Leadership and governance: Expected standard
Morningside Preschool is affiliated with the wider federation of Morningside's early years provision. Leaders are dedicated to supporting the community they serve, ensuring staff share the same ethos. They establish positive partnerships with families to ensure all children, particularly those who are disadvantaged or face barriers to learning, can access the full range of experiences on offer. Leaders focus on developing children's physical, social and communication skills. Visits to local farms and libraries, alongside trips to botanical gardens, broaden children's understanding of the world around them. These experiences promote self-confidence and foster skills that will benefit children throughout their lives. Leaders promote children's love of reading and ensure they have access to books from an early age, both within the setting and at home. The pre-school participates in an international book-gifting scheme, supporting disadvantaged families to share books with their children at home.
Leaders describe the support provided to children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. They work closely with families, their local authority and external agencies to identify individual needs and implement timely interventions. They liaise with professionals to access appropriate guidance and support. Leaders promote healthy lifestyles and children access daily indoor and outdoor opportunities to enhance their physical skills. Leaders encourage healthy eating and positive oral health practices, while supporting families to access information and services that promote healthy lifestyles at home.
Leaders demonstrate a secure commitment to safeguarding. Staff receive up-to-date information and training which firmly embed their safeguarding knowledge. An open culture enables staff to confidently raise concerns and follow appropriate procedures. Staff receive support from senior management. They appreciate the positive work and life balance and the impact this has on their wellbeing. Staff report feeling valued and proud to be part of the team.

Ofsted report cards (England, from November 2025)
Since 10 November 2025 Ofsted has graded nurseries and pre-schools on a report card. There is no single overall grade. Instead, each of six areas gets one of five grades: Exceptional, Strong standard, Expected standard, Needs attention, Urgent improvement.
The six areas are inclusion; curriculum and teaching; achievement; behaviour, attitudes and establishing routines; children's welfare and wellbeing; leadership and governance. Safeguarding is judged on its own, as met or not met.
Expected standard means the setting does what Ofsted expects of every setting. Strong standard and Exceptional are above that; Needs attention and Urgent improvement mean Ofsted found things the setting has to put right.
