What Estyn said

Estyn's report on its May 2025 inspection summarises Ysgol Tremeirchion like this:

"Ysgol Tremeirchion is a happy and friendly community with a strong focus on the wellbeing and development of pupils and staff. The headteacher has a clear vision to ensure that pupils have engaging learning experiences in a caring and inclusive learning environment. The headteacher's approach to fostering positive learning attitudes and excellent behaviour of each pupil is a strength. This sensible vision, which includes contributions from the wider community, supports the school's improvement practices successfully. Teachers and assistants work together intelligently to ensure beneficial provision. They are a team of conscientious staff who focus on developing pupils’ outcomes purposefully."

"They work diligently with parents and external agencies and know pupils' needs well. On the whole, the pace of teaching sessions is suitable for pupils' learning and teachers' feedback for pupils to improve their learning is appropriate. However, there is no consistency in teachers' effective practices in challenging pupils' learning. At times, staff tend to over-lead which limits pupils' ability to learn independently and make direct choices about their learning. Teachers provide interesting opportunities for pupils to develop their skills constructively and gradually in learning activities and over time. This leads to effective progress in pupils' literacy, numeracy and digital skills."

"Staff are skilful language models and promote pupils' Welsh oral skills successfully. Pupils' reading and writing skills develop well, and by the end of their time at the school, they are confident communicators in both languages. Staff and pupils build loyal working relationships. Staff encourage pupils to work together, share ideas and embrace their happiness enthusiastically, which develops their respect for other people's feelings intelligently. Staff ensure that pupils develop effective personal, social and creative skills, which creates a strong awareness of their locality and a strong cultural appreciation. A report on Ysgol Tremeirchion May 2025"

Estyn made 2 recommendations: (1) Ensure effective and consistent teaching practices, including providing purposeful feedback to challenge all pupils; (2) Provide purposeful opportunities for pupils to make independent choices about how to learn and present their work.
