What Estyn said
Estyn's report on its May 2025 inspection summarises Ysgol Bro Cinmeirch like this:
"Ysgol Bro Cinmeirch is a happy and friendly community. The headteacher works effectively with the remainder of the staff to create an inclusive learning environment. This leads to pupils developing positive attitudes to learning and promotes good behaviour. Provision for pupils’ well-being is one of the school’s strengths. Its nurturing environment supports pupils’ personal development greatly, helping them to thrive. Staff know the pupils well and develop strong working relationships with them."
"Pupils treat adults with obvious respect. Staff make effective use of the internal learning areas as well as the external grounds and areas. Pupils are given regular opportunities to contribute their ideas to activities and teachers plan an interesting curriculum that develops most pupils’ skills and knowledge effectively. However, learning activities do not always offer a suitable level of challenge to meet the needs of all pupils. Leaders have succeeded in developing a strong Welsh ethos at the school. Staff use an effective range of methods to promote pupils’ pride in their language and heritage."
"They promote the use of the language skilfully and, as a result, most pupils’ Welsh literacy skills develop successfully. Governors support the school effectively and receive useful information from the headteacher about its performance. A variety of methods and sources are used to monitor the quality of the curriculum and provision. However, the findings of monitoring activities do not always place enough emphasis on evaluating the effect of provision on pupils’ skills and attainment."
Estyn made 2 recommendations: (1) Ensure that self-evaluation processes focus on the effect of provision on pupils’ progress and skills; (2) Ensure an appropriate level of challenge to support pupils to develop their skills in line with their ability.
