What This School Does Well
William Ransom Primary is a warm, nurturing environment where children feel happy and safe. Teachers deliver engaging lessons and pupils develop strong reading skills from the moment they start school. The school offers wonderful opportunities for pupils to explore their interests through clubs and leadership roles, helping them grow in confidence and character.
Key Strengths
- Positive behaviour and attitudes - staff consistently uphold clear expectations and provide effective support when pupils struggle
- Strong early years provision - children settle well, develop confidence and independence, and are well-prepared for Year 1
- Excellent reading provision - pupils have access to high-quality books and most become confident, fluent readers by the end of primary school
- Well-structured curriculum with good teaching - teachers deliver content confidently and help pupils build knowledge over time
- Rich personal development - wide range of clubs (gardening, chess, film, choir, sports) and leadership roles available to all pupils
Areas for Improvement
- Support for pupils with SEND is not strong enough - identification of individual needs is not precise and curriculum adaptations are ineffective
- Lack of strategic oversight by leaders - systems and processes for supporting pupils with SEND are not robust
- Support programmes for pupils with learning gaps are not always effective - gaps are not being closed and some pupils do not receive the right support at the right time
Safeguarding
Safeguarding arrangements are effective and the school has created a positive culture around safeguarding that puts pupils' interests first.
Extracurricular Activities
Gardening, chess, film, choir, sports clubs
William Ransom Primary School is a caring and happy school where pupils enjoy attending and behaviour is typically positive. However, the quality of education requires improvement, particularly in how the school identifies and supports pupils with special educational needs.
