From Ofsted's June 2025 inspection report.

What This School Does Well

Wedmore First School has a nurturing, calm environment where children feel safe and valued. The new leadership team is driving positive change and has built a united staff committed to improvement. The school offers a good range of enrichment activities and teaches pupils to be responsible citizens through leadership opportunities.

Key Strengths

Areas for Improvement

  • Knowledge pupils need to learn has not been identified and sequenced across all subjects, limiting how well they build understanding
  • Some staff lack the expertise to implement the curriculum effectively, particularly in early years
  • Pupils who have fallen behind in reading and writing, including those with SEND, are not receiving all the support they need
  • Assessment systems are underdeveloped so the school cannot identify knowledge gaps or track progress effectively

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with clear procedures in place and a positive culture that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

Breakfast club, singing club, yoga club, outdoor learning, school council, lunchtime monitors

Wedmore First School Academy is working to improve under new leadership, with staff united in their vision to raise ambition.
