Ofsted's report card from its 24 February 2026 inspection grades Tregolls Academy on 7 areas: 2 expected standard and 5 needs attention. Report cards replaced single-word judgements in November 2025, on a five-point scale from exceptional to urgent improvement.

Attendance and behaviour - Expected standard. "Historically, pupils' attendance has been below the national average, and too many pupils have been persistently absent."

Personal development and wellbeing - Expected standard. "Leaders ensure pupils benefit from a well-considered personal development offer."

Achievement - Needs attention. "Too many pupils, including those who are disadvantaged, are not ready for their next stage of education."

Curriculum and teaching - Needs attention. "There is too much variability in the quality of teaching."

Early years - Needs attention. "Weaknesses in the teaching of the curriculum have resulted in too many pupils leaving early years without the knowledge and skills they need for key stage 1."

Inclusion - Needs attention. "Support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) varies too much across the school."

Leadership and governance - Needs attention. "The relatively new leadership team recognises that variability in teaching limits the school's improvement journey."

Safeguarding standards were met.

They should ensure misconceptions are swiftly addressed so that pupils are supported to write well across the curriculum".

From the headteacher's welcome: "Tregolls Nursery serves Truro and its north eastern communities of St Clement, Malpas, and Penair area. We provide expert school-based childcare in a caring and stimulating environment. Specifically designed for children aged 2 to 4 years, our experienced nursery staff are dedicated to supporting children to become confident, independent learners, helping bridge the gap between pre-school and Reception Class."

The school runs a breakfast club and after-school care, from £5.00 per session.

In 2025, 56% of Year 6 pupils at Tregolls Academy reached the expected standard in reading and 50% in maths. At the average state primary the figures were 76% and 73% in Cornwall and 77% and 75% across England.

Results fell from 67% in reading and 70% in maths in 2024.

With small year groups, a few pupils can move these figures by several points.

For September 2026 entry, 14 families put Tregolls Academy as their first choice and 24 named it as one of their preferences, for 16 places offered. It had fewer first-choice applications than places. Every family who put it first was offered a place there for 2026 entry.

23 parents answered Ofsted's Parent View survey about Tregolls Academy (as of April 2026): 91% would recommend the school, 83% say their child is happy there and 80% of those with a view say bullying is dealt with well.

The strongest agreement was that they would recommend the school (91%); the weakest, that they are kept well informed about progress (78%).

37.3% of pupils are eligible for free school meals, well above the average state school (25%), according to the 2026 school census.

In 2026, 42 pupils (19.1%) received SEN support and 22 (10%) had an education, health and care plan, against 16.2% and 4.6% at the average state school. The most common need among them is speech, language and communication needs.

Tregolls Academy has a SEN unit for specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, speech, language and communication needs, autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, multi-sensory impairment, physical disability, moderate learning difficulties, severe learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning difficulties: 11 places, 10 pupils on roll.

Tregolls Academy had 16 teachers in 2026, one for every 14 pupils: more teachers per pupil than a typical primary school, at about one for every 20.

In August 2026, police recorded 191 crimes within a mile of the school, most often violence and sexual offences, anti-social behaviour and shoplifting. That is well above the typical figure around schools in Cornwall (14), as is usual near a town centre.
