What This School Does Well

This is a caring, inclusive community where children feel valued and happy. Staff provide excellent pastoral support and the school creates a calm, orderly environment where behaviour is positive. Children with additional needs receive tailored, effective support that helps them progress from their starting points.

Key Strengths

  • Strong attendance and positive behaviour throughout the school - pupils are polite, considerate and settle quickly to learning
  • Safeguarding is effective with an open culture where concerns are actively identified and acted upon
  • Children make a positive start in early years with well-planned transitions and high expectations
  • Inclusive approach with tailored support for pupils with additional needs
  • Staff are proud to work at the school and parents are very positive about the welcoming atmosphere

Areas for Improvement

  • Achievement is below national averages in phonics checks, multiplication tables and key stage 2 reading and writing
  • Teaching quality is inconsistent across the curriculum, particularly in mixed-age classes - changes made are not yet fully embedded
  • Checks of pupils' work do not consistently identify spelling and grammar errors
  • Pupils' recall of PSHE knowledge is inconsistent, particularly regarding protected characteristics and British values
  • Governors do not challenge leaders with sufficient rigour to ensure strategic targeting of improvements

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met with an open and positive culture where all legal requirements are fulfilled and pupils are made safer and feel safe.

Extracurricular Activities

Theatre visits, art clubs, performances, visits to places of worship including local Mandir

Titchmarsh Church of England Primary School is a welcoming and nurturing community where pupils are happy and feel safe. However, teaching is inconsistent across the curriculum, resulting in pupils not achieving as well as they should as they progress through the school.
