What This School Does Well

The Highcrest Academy creates a caring, inclusive environment where your child will feel supported and valued. The school has high academic ambitions and offers a broad, balanced curriculum with strong careers guidance. Staff work hard to provide enriching experiences that develop your child's talents and interests alongside their academic learning.

Key Strengths

  • Excellent pastoral care and support - pupils feel trusted and valued by staff
  • Strong focus on personal development with trips, clubs, leadership roles and enrichment activities
  • Rigorous systems to identify and support pupils with SEND using tailored programmes
  • Effective behaviour management with quiet, purposeful classrooms
  • Strong careers guidance helping pupils make informed choices about their futures

Areas for Improvement

  • Reading strategy not fully embedded - some weaker readers are not catching up quickly enough
  • Checks on pupils' learning are inconsistent, so some pupils don't achieve strong enough standards
  • Teaching approaches not yet consistently matched to pupils' needs across all subjects
  • Examination results have not been strong enough recently
  • Quality assurance processes not applied consistently by all staff

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with robust oversight maintained by trustees.

Extracurricular Activities

Trips, clubs, pupil leadership roles, languages picnic, county lines education, online safety programmes

The Highcrest Academy is a kind, happy and welcoming secondary school where pupils behave well and staff are proud to work. However, evidence suggests some aspects of the school's work may not be as strong as at the previous inspection, and a graded inspection will follow.
