What This School Does Well

This is a caring school where children are happy, well looked after, and benefit from warm relationships with staff who know them and their families well. The school is particularly strong at supporting children's emotional wellbeing and personal development, helping them grow in confidence and resilience. The specialist provision for pupils with complex needs is excellent, offering highly personalised support so these pupils thrive.

Key Strengths

  • Strong support for pupils' emotional wellbeing and personal development with warm relationships between staff and pupils
  • Excellent provision in the specialist resourced provision for pupils with complex needs who make very positive progress
  • Effective teaching in phonics and mathematics with leaders taking action to improve writing
  • Good inclusion practices with leaders quickly identifying pupils' needs and working with families and external agencies

Areas for Improvement

  • Too many pupils do not have secure basic skills in letter formation, spelling and punctuation by end of Year 2
  • Phonics achievement historically below national average, though improving
  • Inconsistent behaviour expectations and management across the school meaning pupils do not always concentrate well
  • Curriculum in some subjects does not build knowledge in a logical order, leaving pupils without understanding needed to be successful
  • Early years activities not always purposeful enough with inconsistent use of interactions to develop language and thinking

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met with leaders establishing an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and concerns are actively identified and acted upon.

Extracurricular Activities

Baking club, football club, gymnastics club, rock band, trips, visitors

Studley Infants' School is a caring school where pupils are happy and well supported emotionally, but achievement needs improvement with too many pupils not reaching expected standards by the end of Year 2, particularly in writing and phonics.
