Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

St Werburghs Park provides an excellent foundation for learning with caring staff who know children and families extremely well. Children develop strong social skills and emotional resilience through structured routines and adult modelling. The school does particularly well at supporting disadvantaged children and those with additional needs, helping them catch up with their peers.

Key Strengths

  • Strong focus on children's emotional and social development, preparing them well for Reception Year
  • Excellent relationships between children and adults, helping them settle and develop social skills
  • Good progress for disadvantaged children and those with SEND through well-matched support
  • Engaging indoor and outdoor environment where children sustain interest in activities
  • Thorough knowledge of children's needs and families, with careful assessment records

Areas for Improvement

  • Most able children do not receive enough challenge, particularly in literacy and writing skills
  • Adults' questioning and language modelling do not always help children develop speaking and vocabulary
  • Limited opportunities for children to practise forming letters and early writing, especially during independent learning
  • Next steps for the most able children lack precision, resulting in activities that are sometimes too easy

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is effective, with rigorous staff checks, regular training, careful risk assessments for activities, and strong partnerships with relevant agencies to support children and families in need.

Extracurricular Activities

Forest area problem-solving, woodwork skills, circle time sessions, story sessions

St Werburghs Park Nursery School continues to be good, with strong leadership that has maintained educational quality since the last inspection in 2015. The school is committed to building foundations for learning and welcomes parents as partners in their children's education.
