What This School Does Well

St Mark's is a small school with a big heart that builds children's confidence and knowledge in a nurturing environment. Teachers have strong subject knowledge and help pupils make real connections in their learning. The school offers excellent support for all learners, including children with special educational needs, and creates a calm, settled place where good behaviour is the norm.

Key Strengths

  • Strong phonics teaching and early reading support that helps pupils become fluent, confident readers by end of Year 2
  • Well-developed SEND support with staff who understand pupil needs and adapt curriculum delivery effectively
  • Clear behaviour routines and positive relationships that create a settled, calm learning environment
  • Strong subject knowledge among teachers who help pupils make connections between different subjects
  • Wide enrichment programme including tennis and film club available to all pupils

Areas for Improvement

  • School does not consistently check what pupils have learned and remembered across the wider curriculum, meaning gaps in knowledge in non-core subjects are not always identified and addressed quickly
  • Subject leaders need to evaluate the impact of the revised curriculum in helping pupils know more and remember more over time

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

Extracurricular Activities

Tennis club, film club, sports crew, school council roles, before- and after-school club, horticultural society visits, community open days
