What This School Does Well

St Luke's is a supportive community where pupils feel cared for and proud to attend. The school excels at teaching reading from an early age and has strong foundations in mathematics. All pupils, including those with additional needs, benefit from a well-planned curriculum that helps them progress steadily.

Key Strengths

  • Strong emphasis on reading with effective early reading instruction and rapid support for pupils who fall behind
  • Well-designed curriculum that builds knowledge and skills progressively, particularly in mathematics foundations
  • Effective support for pupils with SEND who access the full curriculum successfully
  • Clear behaviour expectations creating a calm, respectful school environment
  • Active personal development programme covering equality, healthy relationships, safety and career awareness

Areas for Improvement

  • More opportunities needed for pupils to develop reasoning and problem-solving skills in mathematics
  • Inconsistencies in some foundation subjects where teaching does not consistently help pupils practise and retain important knowledge
  • Need for regular opportunities across all subjects to ensure pupils progress as well as they could
