St Gregory's is excellent at creating a safe, caring environment where children thrive and behave outstandingly well. Teachers use creative, engaging approaches to learning - from outdoor maths lessons to using music and candlelight to inspire better writing. The school is particularly skilled at supporting pupils with additional needs and disadvantaged families, narrowing the attainment gap through excellent use of extra resources and staffing.

Areas for Improvement
- Standards in reading, writing and mathematics at the end of Year 2 remain below average
- Pace of learning sometimes slows in lessons, with pupils occasionally slow to start tasks
- Need to improve the proportion of pupils achieving higher levels, especially in writing at the end of Year 6
- Boys' writing needs to be stronger
- Marking practice should be more consistent, with more time given for pupils to respond and set improvement targets
