What This School Does Well

St David's is a caring school where every child feels welcomed and safe. Staff genuinely know their pupils and provide support tailored to individual needs. The school goes 'above and beyond' to help all children thrive, with a strong focus on building positive behaviour, excellent attendance, and early reading skills.

Key Strengths

  • Strong attendance levels that have risen above national average through proactive engagement with families
  • Positive behaviour and calm learning environment where pupils uphold school values and show care for one another
  • Effective early reading programme with pupils quickly securing phonics knowledge
  • Comprehensive personal development programme helping pupils understand British values, wellbeing and relationships
  • Well-tailored support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities

Areas for Improvement

  • Handwriting and presentation of written work is too variable and hampers writing fluency, particularly for disadvantaged pupils
  • Some disadvantaged pupils do not achieve as highly as they could in certain areas
  • Recent improvements to handwriting teaching have not yet had desired impact on pupils' learning

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met - leaders have established an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and pupils are made safer and feel safe.

Extracurricular Activities

Violin lessons, art gallery exhibitions, rounders, tennis, chess, sewing, sports leadership roles, house captain roles, residential trips, beach visits, live performances

St David's Church of England Primary School is a welcoming school where pupils feel safe and belong. Leaders have strengthened the curriculum and teaching, though handwriting and presentation of written work remain areas needing improvement.
