What This School Does Well

Springvale Primary School excels at creating a friendly, caring environment where children want to come to school and have strong attitudes to learning. The school has made excellent progress in mathematics and reading, particularly challenging the most able pupils. Staff are well-supported and committed, which contributes to consistently good behaviour and pupil wellbeing.

Key Strengths

  • Mathematics achievement has improved consistently, with the most able pupils reaching higher standards than the national average
  • Pupils have very strong attitudes to learning, concentrate well in lessons, and enjoy coming to school
  • Care and welfare of pupils is a key strength, with well-managed behaviour and above-average attendance
  • Reading has been maintained as a strength with increased resources and higher expectations for older pupils
  • Staff feel well supported, motivated and respected by leadership

Areas for Improvement

  • Not all pupils are challenged enough in lessons - some in Years 2, 3 and 4 find work too easy in mathematics and English
  • Writing still needs development to help more pupils achieve the highest standards
  • The gap in achievement for disadvantaged pupils is not narrowing quickly enough across all classes
  • Subject leadership and pupils' personal development plans need clearer measurable targets

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is effective. The school has robust procedures in place, staff receive regular training, and all pupils say they feel safe at school with concerns responded to quickly.

Extracurricular Activities

Buddy corner, pupil play leaders

Springvale Primary School continues to be good. The leadership team has maintained good quality education with particular strengths in pupil care, welfare, and behaviour, while making notable improvements in mathematics achievement since the last inspection.
