What This School Does Well

South Bank University Sixth Form excels at preparing students for real-world careers through partnerships with employers and expert teaching from subject specialists. Teachers use targeted feedback and practical learning methods to help students make rapid progress, with level 3 vocational and T-level students achieving high grades and qualifying for degree apprenticeships and university. The school provides excellent support for students with additional needs and encourages valuable employability skills through volunteering, business activities, and community involvement.

Key Strengths

  • Strong partnerships with employers and NHS trusts to design innovative, skills-based curriculum
  • Effective professional development programme helping teachers develop their practice quickly
  • Robust systems for identifying and supporting students at risk of falling behind
  • High-quality careers advice and guidance helping students make informed decisions about their futures
  • Effective support for students with SEND, enabling them to progress as well as their peers

Areas for Improvement

  • Too few level 2 students improve their English and/or mathematics GCSE grades despite curriculum adaptations
  • Staff have not taught students well enough about the risks of radicalisation and extremism
  • Need to continue improving quality of progress monitoring systems

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with staff suitably trained and quick to identify and report concerns, though teaching about radicalisation and extremism needs strengthening.
