What This School Does Well
Reaseheath College is working hard to support all its students to succeed. The college has made real improvements in helping students with additional needs, with staff receiving training and working closely together to provide the right support in lessons. Teachers are using practical, real-world examples - like architectural plans - to help students understand difficult concepts, and the college is committed to health and safety with students actively learning about safe working practices.
Key Strengths
- Teachers use a range of purposeful teaching strategies and chunk activities to help students practise and consolidate new knowledge - for example, using real architectural plans in T-level design lessons
- Leaders have significantly improved support for students with SEND and high needs through additional training, specialist advisors, and group profiles that inform staff how to support each student
- Leaders have introduced new policies and training on health and safety, with students now confidently involved in risk assessments before practical activities
- Quality assurance processes have been strengthened with lesson observations for all staff, professional development discussions, and targeted support for underperforming areas
Areas for Improvement
- In a small number of lessons, students complete tasks without knowing what to do next, causing them to disengage and wait for the next activity
- Feedback on GCSE English written work is not specific enough - students are unclear what they need to do to improve their grades
- Teachers' marking of spelling, punctuation and grammar errors is inconsistent, and students do not revisit and correct these errors
- Attendance in some lessons visited fell below leaders' expectations, despite reports of generally high attendance college-wide
- A new student conduct policy has not yet been finalised
