What This School Does Well

Radford Semele is an ambitious school where children thrive both academically and personally. Reading is taught exceptionally well, and by Year 6 pupils achieve high standards in writing and maths. The school brings learning to life through residential trips, visits, and a wide range of clubs, while fostering values like respect, responsibility and generosity that help children become confident and resilient learners.

Key Strengths

  • Reading is prioritised with effective phonics teaching and swift identification of gaps in learning
  • Early years children have plenty of play-based learning opportunities and develop strong personal, social and emotional skills
  • Curriculum is brought to life through enrichment activities including visits, residential trips, and extra-curricular clubs
  • Pupils with SEND are identified quickly and receive well-planned, effective support
  • Strong behaviour culture with clear school rules (respect, ready, kind) that pupils follow consistently

Areas for Improvement

  • In some subjects, staff lack sufficient depth of subject knowledge and expertise to teach as effectively as in other subjects
  • Assessment methods for checking pupils' learning are newly implemented and not yet consistent across all subjects, leading to gaps in memory and learning
  • Writing curriculum is not taught as clearly and consistently as intended, meaning some pupils progress slower than they could

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective and the school has created a positive culture around safeguarding that prioritises pupils' interests.

Extracurricular Activities

Football, choir, dance, ukulele, guitar, drums, outdoor activity residential (Year 4 - canoeing), residential visit to London (Year 6), school council, eco-committee, prefect roles

Radford Semele CofE Primary School has successfully maintained the good standards from its previous inspection. The school is ambitious for all pupils, with high expectations for behaviour and achievement, particularly in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of Year 6.
