What This School Does Well
Rachel McMillan is an exceptionally warm and nurturing school where children develop into confident, independent learners within days of joining. The outdoor learning environment is particularly impressive, and the school goes above and beyond by supporting parents as well as children - many parents describe how staff have helped them through difficult periods. The school's 'stay and play' sessions help parents understand how to support their children's learning at home.

Areas for Improvement
- Learning environment needs further enhancement to provide more guidance on developing early writing and number skills
- Assessment systems could be better developed to track small steps of progress for children with special educational needs or disabilities
- Some children not consistently given guidance on early phonics skills needed for emerging writing
- Staff may need additional training to teach early phonics skills with confidence
