What This School Does Well

Progression 2 Work excels at building positive relationships and high aspirations, with pupils eager to attend lessons and engage in learning. The school provides outstanding support for pupils' futures through comprehensive careers guidance, employability training, and work experience placements. Staff know their pupils well and provide excellent pastoral care alongside a broad, well-organised curriculum that prioritises reading.

Key Strengths

  • Strong positive relationships between staff and pupils with clear high expectations for academic, personal and social achievement
  • Excellent personal development provision including impressive careers guidance, employability support, and work experience programmes
  • Well-organised curriculum that builds cumulatively on prior learning with good prioritisation of reading
  • Pupils motivated and engaged in lessons, enjoying Active Learning sessions with a wide range of activities
  • New leadership team has rapidly secured improvements in curriculum, safeguarding, assessment and behaviour

Areas for Improvement

  • Curriculum and assessment systems are at very early stages of implementation, so pupils cannot yet recall longer-term learning as well as they should
  • No systematic approach to developing handwriting skills for pupils who struggle with this
  • Support for pupils with SEND and EHC plans does not consistently enable them to achieve as highly as they should in their learning
  • Staff do not routinely receive information about additional needs that would help them support pupils fully in their learning

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with all policies implemented consistently including health and safety, fire safety and risk assessment.

Extracurricular Activities

Go-karting, bowling, Active Learning sessions, work experience programmes, careers guidance, employability programmes

Progression 2 Work is a special school for pupils aged 11-16 that helps students overcome barriers to learning and prepares them well for their next stage. The school requires improvement overall but demonstrates good behaviour, personal development, and leadership with recent improvements made by new senior leadership.
