What This School Does Well

Prince Edward Primary creates a warm, welcoming school community where children feel safe and happy. Teachers set high expectations and pupils make good progress, with particularly strong writing across all subjects. The school goes above and beyond by providing unique learning experiences through outdoor spaces, resident artists, and daily physical activity that many pupils wouldn't access otherwise.

Key Strengths

  • Pupils' good behaviour and strong family atmosphere with excellent staff-pupil-family relationships
  • High quality of writing across all subjects with consistently good handwriting and presentation
  • Effective early years provision with good progress from lower starting points
  • Strong leadership that is relentless in driving improvement and raising pupil aspirations
  • Effective safeguarding arrangements with prompt action and detailed records

Areas for Improvement

  • Inconsistency in reading teaching across the school - reading progress lags behind writing and mathematics
  • Most able pupils in years other than Year 6 not consistently challenged to achieve higher standards
  • Need to ensure challenge in activities more consistently develops deeper thinking for higher-achieving pupils

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is effective with all arrangements fit for purpose, comprehensive staff training including Prevent duty, thorough recruitment checks, and prompt action on concerns.

Extracurricular Activities

Daily mile challenge, Take 10 active sessions, resident artist programmes, poetry and story-teller visits, outdoor learning in secret garden, bio-dome for tropical fruit growing, allotment activities, road safety lessons, cycle training, NSPCC visits, attendance reward discos and film afternoons

Prince Edward Primary School continues to be judged as good. The school has maintained educational quality since 2013 under inspirational leadership that prioritizes pupil welfare, strong relationships, and high expectations.
