Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Prees is a truly caring school where your child will thrive in a supportive community. Reading is prioritised from the very start, and children with additional needs receive skilled, well-trained support. The school enriches learning through wonderful local visits and experiences while nurturing strong values and excellent behaviour.

Key Strengths

  • Strong focus on building language and vocabulary across all subjects, with pupils using subject-specific terminology confidently
  • Excellent reading provision from nursery onwards, with phonics taught accurately and pupils supported quickly if at risk of falling behind
  • Skilled curriculum adaptations for pupils with gaps in learning, particularly in mathematics and English spelling/grammar
  • Wide range of enriching experiences including visits to galleries, museums and local archives to support cultural learning
  • Excellent behaviour, with pupils polite, caring for peers, and older pupils mentoring younger children during breaktimes

Areas for Improvement

  • English curriculum not sufficiently adapted for pupils ready for more complex, extended writing activities - some pupils lack opportunities to write at greater depth
  • Safeguarding record storage system is inefficient, making it difficult to access information quickly and build clear chronologies of concerns in a timely manner

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with staff reporting concerns promptly and pupils confidently sharing worries, though improvements are needed to the record storage system to enable quicker access to information.

Extracurricular Activities

Chess, choir, football, art gallery and museum visits, supermarket visits, religion and culture workshops, careers fairs

Prees CofE Primary School is a happy school where everyone matters, with high expectations for pupil achievement. The school has maintained good standards and continues to support most pupils, including those with SEND, to learn the curriculum very well.
