Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Perry Beeches creates a warm, safe environment where children thrive emotionally and physically. The outdoor spaces are wonderful for learning, and staff quickly identify and support children with additional needs. Children genuinely enjoy school and benefit from strong partnership between home and nursery.

Key Strengths

  • Children feel safe, confident and enjoy coming to school with strong home-school partnerships
  • Staff create a calm environment with caring relationships and high levels of supervision
  • Well-organised outdoor learning environment encourages physical development, creativity and friendships
  • Strong focus on children's physical and mental health, including feelings management and hygiene
  • Children with SEND are identified quickly and receive additional specialist support through group sessions

Areas for Improvement

  • Curriculum does not break down concepts into specific learning steps children need to build knowledge steadily
  • Staff do not routinely model or extend children's language sufficiently to develop speaking skills
  • School and governors lack capacity to address weaknesses and do not have accurate understanding of school's performance
  • Children with SEND learning arrangements are not regularly reviewed or updated
  • Leadership and governance do not provide sufficient oversight of school systems and safer recruitment practices

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective but minor improvements are needed - staff absence causes insufficient oversight of safeguarding records, and governors lack knowledge of safer recruitment practices.

Extracurricular Activities

Growing vegetables, releasing butterflies, stories and cultural celebrations, music and rhymes

Perry Beeches Nursery School requires improvement in the quality of education it provides. The school has not effectively addressed weaknesses from its previous inspection, with weak leadership oversight and an underdeveloped curriculum impacting children's learning.
