Ofsted Insights

From Ofsted's January 2026 inspection report.

What This School Does Well

The school maintains a strong safeguarding culture where pupils feel safe and well cared for. Leaders understand their responsibilities and actively promote pupil wellbeing. Staff recruitment processes are thorough and follow current safeguarding requirements properly.

Key Strengths

  • Safeguarding arrangements are effective with clear systems and staff trained to identify concerns
  • Secure recruitment processes in place with proper background checks completed before staff start
  • Leaders understand pupils' specific needs from their education and health care plans

Areas for Improvement

  • Curriculum for early reading and phonics support is not effective, limiting pupils' access to other learning
  • Teaching does not consistently adapt to match all pupils' aptitudes and needs across subjects
  • Teachers are not using assessment information effectively to identify and address gaps in pupils' knowledge

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective - the school has strong systems in place, pupils feel safe and cared for, staff are well trained, and record-keeping provides clear oversight of concerns.

Parkview Academy, an independent special school with capacity for 25 pupils, was found in this January 2026 progress monitoring inspection to still not meet all independent school standards. Although the school has made some progress since July 2025, improvements in curriculum and assessment have not been implemented effectively enough.
