What This School Does Well

The school creates a friendly, supportive community where pupils enjoy learning and feel safe. Early years children benefit from excellent individualised teaching and a language-rich environment that helps them get off to a strong start. The phonics programme is effective and helps children become confident readers early on.

Key Strengths

  • School identifies pupils with SEND swiftly and provides good additional adult support
  • Calm behaviour around school with positive relationships between older and younger pupils
  • Pupils feel safe and know how to stay safe online

Areas for Improvement

  • Curriculum is not implemented consistently well, and pupils struggle to recall what they have been taught
  • Older pupils are not encouraged to take books home, and some in key stage 2 dislike reading
  • Staff do not routinely check pupils' understanding or address gaps in learning
  • Staff do not consistently display high expectations for learning behaviour, leading to distraction and low-level disruption
  • Pupils have limited understanding of British values, democracy, the rule of law, and protected characteristics

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with pupils feeling safe in school and knowing they can talk to staff about worries or concerns.

Extracurricular Activities

Nature club, sports clubs

North Cockerington Church of England Primary School is at the heart of its community where pupils enjoy attending and parents value the friendly environment. However, the school requires improvement in the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management, though early years provision is good.
