This is a caring school where every child is known well and feels valued. The school excels at supporting children with additional needs and has made real improvements in attendance and behaviour through strong partnerships with families. Children benefit from a rich range of experiences including residential trips, theatre visits and museum outings that broaden their horizons and make learning exciting.

  • Teaching of phonics has been sharpened with most pupils gaining the skills needed to pass screening checks
  • Inclusive approach prioritises pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils, with effective support strategies and specialist training for staff
  • Behaviour and attendance have improved significantly with robust systems and strong family partnerships
  • Rich curriculum enriched by educational visits, residential trips, theatre visits and after-school clubs

Areas for Improvement

  • Some higher-achieving pupils could be increasingly challenged to deepen their knowledge and understanding
  • Assessment across subjects other than English and mathematics is not as extensively developed, affecting teachers' ability to identify gaps in learning
  • Variation in how well teachers ensure pupils practise basic skills such as handwriting, punctuation and spelling
  • Some pupils' recall of learning about world religions, cultures and British Values is not as secure as it could be
  • Occasionally, staff support does not help pupils develop their independence as much as it could
