New Bewerley is a wonderfully inclusive community where every child is welcomed and supported to succeed. The school excels at removing barriers to learning, with excellent attendance, strong behaviour and positive relationships between staff and pupils. Leaders are ambitious for all pupils, including those with additional needs, and offer a rich range of experiences to broaden horizons.
Key Strengths
- Highly inclusive school with excellent support for pupils with SEND through three specialist provisions (the nest, learning tree, rainbow room)
- Strong attendance and behaviour, with leaders' work being highly effective and suspension rates reducing over time
- Excellent pastoral support and personal development through the NB60 programme offering 60 rich experiences for all pupils
- Positive staff-pupil relationships and a culture where pupils feel safe and know how to report concerns
Areas for Improvement
- Pupil achievement in reading, writing and mathematics is below national averages and not improving at the pace needed
- Inconsistent quality of curriculum teaching across the school means pupils struggle to retrieve and apply essential knowledge
- Assessment is not used effectively enough to identify and close gaps in pupil knowledge
- Variability in phonics and letter formation teaching, despite recent improvements and new strategies introduced
