What This School Does Well

The school provides a welcoming, inclusive environment where children from diverse backgrounds thrive. Early Years teaching is particularly strong, and the school has successfully supported many pupils eligible for pupil premium funding to make excellent progress. The recent federation has brought positive changes and stable leadership that parents and pupils clearly appreciate.

Key Strengths

  • Children have a good start in Nursery and Reception classes with stable, effective leadership
  • Pupils are positive, respectful and appreciative of improvements since the school federation
  • Strong community relationships - pupils, staff, parents and carers are happy with the school
  • Leaders have a clear understanding of weaknesses and are successfully addressing them
  • Pupils eligible for pupil premium funding are making better progress than other pupils

Areas for Improvement

  • Achievement varies too much between classes - pupils' learning gaps are not closing fast enough
  • Teaching quality is inconsistent, especially in classes with newer teachers
  • Pupils don't always understand tasks or know what to do next, which slows their learning
  • Teaching assistants' skills are not always used effectively throughout lessons
  • Leaders need to check more frequently that their guidance on improving teaching is actually being followed

Extracurricular Activities

Contemporary dance sessions, breakfast club, after-school club, primary sports funding activities

Moreland Primary School requires improvement. The leadership team has not yet had enough time to secure consistently effective teaching across the school, though early signs from the federation are positive.
