Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Mill Hill is a genuinely caring school where your child will feel part of a family. The staff work exceptionally hard to help disadvantaged pupils succeed, and pupils leave well-prepared for secondary school. From the early years right through to Year 6, there's a real focus on making sure every child feels they belong and can thrive.

Key Strengths

  • Exceptional achievement of disadvantaged pupils, who perform better than their peers nationally
  • Warm, inclusive culture where pupils feel safe and develop strong relationships with staff
  • Well-sequenced, ambitious curriculum from age 2 through Year 6
  • Effective early years provision with strong focus on personal, social and emotional development
  • High-quality pastoral support and inclusion strategies for pupils with special educational needs

Areas for Improvement

  • Some pupils with special educational needs do not receive sufficient adaptations to produce consistently high-quality work
  • Staff do not always identify pupils' misconceptions quickly enough in lessons, meaning some gaps in basic skills close slowly
  • Need for more consistent checking of pupil understanding and learning during teaching

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met - leaders have established an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and pupils are made safer and feel safe.

Extracurricular Activities

Forest school provision, mindfulness art, cookery, camping and survival skills, career visitor programme, local community art projects

Mill Hill Primary School is a highly inclusive school where pupils are valued and thrive in a warm, welcoming environment. Leaders have overseen improvements in the curriculum and achievement, with disadvantaged pupils consistently performing well above national averages.
