Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Mason Moor excels at making every child feel welcome and included, with particularly strong support for children with additional needs and those learning English as an additional language. The early years is exceptional, helping children get off to a brilliant start with warm, caring staff who know them well. The school offers free clubs and trips in art, cookery, sports and theatre visits to broaden children's experiences and build confidence.

Key Strengths

  • Excellent early years provision with warm, attentive staff who help children develop confidence and independence
  • Highly effective inclusion approach with strong speech and language support and specialist provisions for pupils with complex needs
  • Clear, calm learning environment with good behaviour and positive pupil attitudes
  • Broad and ambitious curriculum with strong focus on reading and phonics
  • Leaders and staff are committed to professional development and improvements

Areas for Improvement

  • Pupils' progress in writing and mathematics remains weaker than in reading and needs to improve
  • Too many pupils, including disadvantaged pupils, do not secure the knowledge and skills needed for the next stage
  • Early momentum in learning does not continue for all pupils as they move through the school
  • Mathematical improvements are at an early stage and full impact is not yet seen

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met - leaders have established an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and pupils are made safer and feel safe.

Extracurricular Activities

Art clubs, cookery clubs, sports clubs, theatre visits, school council roles, playground helper roles, community projects with local residents and Saints Foundation

Mason Moor Primary School, Nursery & Specialist Bases is a well-led inclusive school where leaders have worked with determination to secure improvements and create a culture where every pupil is valued and supported. However, pupils do not achieve well enough, particularly in writing and mathematics by the end of key stage 2.
