What This School Does Well
Marlborough is a welcoming school where your child will feel safe and happy. Staff work hard to help every child make good progress, and the school creates a strong sense of community where pupils support each other. The school also does excellent work teaching children about respect, kindness and different cultures around the world.

- Pupils make good progress in reading, writing and mathematics, with steep rises in progress rates in 2013/14
- Outstanding safeguarding arrangements and procedures for keeping pupils safe and secure
- Staff training and continuing development is very well managed, helping pupils achieve
- Pupils are courteous, respectful and behave sensibly; strong sense of community pride
- Exceptional promotion of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development with themed weeks and assemblies
Areas for Improvement
- Reading progress lags behind writing and mathematics - pupils need clearer guidance on how to improve
- Pupils struggle to explain what they have read in their own words, which slows reading progress
- Pupils cannot articulate what has helped them improve their reading in the past
- Occasional loss of concentration in lessons limits some pupils' progress
