Ofsted's report card from its 28 April 2026 inspection grades Maltby Academy on 7 areas: 2 strong standard, 4 expected standard and 1 needs attention. Report cards replaced single-word judgements in November 2025, on a five-point scale from exceptional to urgent improvement.

Attendance and behaviour - Expected standard. "As a direct result of the positive culture at school and the systems that leaders have put into place, attendance has increased."

Curriculum and teaching - Expected standard. "Leaders have transformed the curriculum."

Leadership and governance - Expected standard. "Leaders are transforming the school."

Post 16 provision - Expected standard. "Leaders have a secure understanding of the quality of post-16 provision at school."

Achievement - Needs attention. "Historically, pupils have underachieved in mathematics."

Safeguarding standards were met.

In 2026, pupils at Maltby Academy averaged an Attainment 8 score of 39.8, the average grade across their best eight GCSEs. The average state school scored 43.9 in Rotherham and 47 across England.

39% passed English and maths at grade 5 or above, against 41% in Rotherham and 47% in England.

That is down from 42 in 2025.

Its most recent Progress 8 score, for 2024, was -0.13: pupils made below average progress compared with pupils nationally who started secondary school at the same level. Progress 8 was not published for 2026.

Disadvantaged pupils averaged an Attainment 8 of 31.4, against 44.1 for other pupils at the school - a gap of 12.7 points.

Pupils sat GCSEs in 20 subjects; after English and maths, the most popular were Combined Science, Art and Design and Geography.

For September 2026 entry, 167 families put Maltby Academy as their first choice and 222 named it as one of their preferences, for 175 places offered. It had fewer first-choice applications than places. Every family who put it first was offered a place there for 2026 entry.

The nearest other state secondary schools to Maltby Academy are Wickersley School and Sports College (2.7 miles, Good, Attainment 8 48.8); EDClass Ltd (3.4 miles); Dinnington High School (3.5 miles, Attainment 8 46.7); and Sir Thomas Wharton Academy (3.6 miles, Good, Attainment 8 49.2).

Each of them had higher 2026 results than Maltby Academy.

Of the 177 pupils who finished Year 11 in 2023/24, 86% stayed in education or training for at least two terms, including 36% to a further education college, 3% to an apprenticeship and 3% into work.

Of the 85 students who left the sixth form in 2023/24, 44% went on to university or other higher education, 12% to apprenticeships and 28% into work. 9% went to one of the most selective third of universities.

5.1% speak English as an additional language, against 18.8% on average, according to the 2026 school census.
