Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Longmoor Primary excels at creating a warm, welcoming environment where every child feels they belong and are cared for. The school has made real progress in teaching reading well and provides pupils with wonderful enrichment opportunities including residential trips and music lessons. Staff build strong, trusting relationships with families and respond positively to pupil requests for additional support.

Key Strengths

  • Well-established reading programme with good teaching and support for pupils to catch up
  • Strong safeguarding culture with open, positive relationships between staff and pupils
  • Effective pastoral support and enrichment activities including trips, sports clubs and music tuition
  • Clear behaviour expectations and positive relationships demonstrating kindness and respect
  • Good transition support from early years into Year 1

Areas for Improvement

  • Inconsistent achievement in mathematics by end of key stage 2, with pupils not presenting their calculations neatly
  • Teaching does not consistently check all pupils' understanding through questioning, so some pupils' needs are not fully met
  • Pupils' knowledge about different cultures, faiths and beliefs is not consistent
  • Some early years staff interactions with children need to be higher quality to develop language and communication

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met. Leaders have created an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and concerns are actively identified and acted upon, making pupils safer and helping them feel safe.

Extracurricular Activities

Residential trips, outdoor learning, sports clubs, musical instrument tuition, drop-in pastoral support sessions, friendship fixer roles, mini leader roles

Longmoor Primary School provides a calm, nurturing environment where pupils feel safe and valued. The school has made strong improvements in reading and maintains positive behaviour and attendance across the school.
